THE HITS JUST KEEP ON COMING
Anderson “the spider” Silva has been declared out of the main card of UFC 198 earlier today with stomach pains that eventually lead to gallbladder surgery. Anderson was set to fly from Rio de Janeiro to Curitiba Brazil to compete there for the first time in over a decade. However, after complaining of stomach pains, the former middleweight champ was rushed to the hospital wednesday morning for emergency surgery.
“He called me and said ‘I’m going to the hospital, but I’ll get better’, so we came to Curitiba,” Silva’s coach Luiz Carlos Dorea said. “When we arrived in Curitiba, he said ‘Master, I came home but the pain is too much.’ I told him to eat something, but he said ‘I can’t, I’m eating and throwing up.’ He told me this afternoon that it was too painful and he had to go back to the hospital.”
Silva was 5 pounds away from making weight and everything was going according to his striking coach Luiz Dorea.
“He was doing great, and this came out of nowhere,” Luiz Dorea said. “He felt some (abdominal) pain before, but nothing serious. He always came back to train the next day, so we never imagined it would be something like this.
Silva is said to be in good condition and could be cleared in 4-6 weeks to train. The real elephant in the room is what will happen to Uriah Hall? Set to square off in his biggest fight to date, Hall is left without a partner. It’s unclear as to whether the UFC will try to find a contender or if Hall will be taken off the card all together. But what do you guys think, who should take Anderson Silva’s place? UFC 198 is set to go down this Saturday via PPV in Curitiba, Brazil. Start time is 10 p.m. eastern – Fabricio Werdum (20-5-1)and Stipe Miocic (14-2-0) headline the card.
