Gym goers have started incorporated partial reps into workouts and Arnold Schwarzenegger disagrees with this.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is not shy about giving fitness advice in his daily newsletter. During a recent edition of Arnold’s Pump Club, Schwarzenegger revealed that he does the same in-person as well. When floating around the gym, there is one common theme.
“These days, in the gym, the most common thing I’m telling people is to stop doing half-reps, quarter-reps, or three-quarter reps.”
Schwarzenegger has urged weightlifters to stop with partials and perform full reps. He discussed many benefits of full reps. Aside from muscle-building, resistance training with a full range of motion also helps improve flexibility and mobility. It is also the best way to build strength and muscle.
Schwarzenegger continued to discuss his philosophy when it comes to partial reps.
Arnold Schwarzenegger: “Get To The Gym, Do Your Full Reps”
Schwarzenegger is one of the all-time great bodybuilders. He came to America with a dream of becoming a champion and accomplished this quickly using his great physique and incredible motivation.
Arnold used the epidemic of partial reps as a connection to life as a whole.
“If you don’t make the most of your time in the gym, I am willing to bet you aren’t making the most of your time, period. If you do half-reps of pull-ups, I’m guessing we can find other parts of your life you’re giving half the attention needed.”

Schwarzenegger discussed the overall benefits of full reps and shared his concerns with those who do partials.
“We know that resistance training with a full range of motion is just as powerful as stretching for increasing flexibility and mobility. We know training with a full range of motion is the most efficient way to gain strength and muscle mass.
I’m worried because people are missing out on the fantastic benefits of progressive weight resistance training, but I’m even more worried about what it might mean for the rest of their lives.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger ended by calling for weightlifters to put their all into workouts and perform full reps.
“There are good days and bad days of training. Success demands struggle. Full effort beats half effort every time.
Progress requires learning to love the process.
The joy is in the doing.
Now get to the gym and do your full reps.”
