“You might be taking supplements to improve performance but researchers found something very disturbing when they started testing the products you trust.”
Pre-workouts have become very popular over the years as weightlifters look to get the best possible preparation for an intense workout. According to Arnold, many supplements might not be containing what you think.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Talks Pre-Workout
In a recent edition of Arnold’s Pump Club, the bodybuilding legend shared research on pre-workouts. The study took a look at 57 sports supplements that were marketed for performance enhancement but did not contain what the label said.
“These products claimed to contain botanical ingredients believes to increase strength, endurance, or fat loss.”
Of the 57 products, only six (11%) accurately listed ingredients on the label. A total of 40% of the products contained different ingredients while 12% included banned or unapproved drugs.
“While you can argue whether the ingredients tested actually work, that’s not what was most concerning. This wasn’t an argument about efficacy — it was a blatant abuse of label accuracy.”
Schwarzenegger continued to discuss how dietary supplements are not as regulated as pharmaceuticals. This can lead to inaccuracies being overlooked.
This is also a problem with creatine and many multivitamins.
“Research has shown that everything from creatine to multivitamins and protein powders have inaccurate labels. While everyone has to work within their budget, the reality is that the majority of the cheapest supplements are priced so affordably because they don’t invest in certification.”
