BIGOREXIA: CAN YOU EVER BE BIG ENOUGH?

Generation Iron Bigorexia

Where does it end?

It’s hard out there for a bodybuilder. When you’re looking to get into some serious shape it means dedicating your body and mind to a specific program that’s going to see you making massive muscle development. There’s no way you can slack and still build your body up to impressive proportions without some serious sacrifice.

There’s no doubt that for some bodybuilders, building up their physical form is the top priority in their lives trumping everything from work to social status and relationships. That hunt for greater muscle is what keeps them waking up every morning, what keeps them pushing their body to the limit. No one wants to eat massive amounts of foods, weighing everything, measuring the percentage of carbs, protein, and fats, not without getting results at least. There has to be a specific goal in mind and if it isn’t met it can feel like a crushing defeat.

.

But for every endeavor there are different levels of commitment. There are those who want to be in good shape and condition, there are those who want to be shredded, then there are those who aren’t satisfied with any of the improvements they’ve made on their body. Soon the endeavor of bodybuilding becomes more than just a goal, but an obsession with building more muscle. Sure, there’s nothing wrong with building your body up. But when it’s taken to obsessive levels it can easily become a sickness that can be mentally harmful.

Body dysmorphia can come in all different shapes and sizes. There are those who don’t think they’re skinny enough even when being rail thin, then there are those on the opposite spectrum, people who believe that no matter how much muscle they put on they still feel small, inadequate. It can be a truly torturous sickness to suffer from. It means that no matter hard you suffer and toil to get the body you desire, you’ll never reach your goal.

Bigorexia, as some people have coined it, can be truly detrimental. But don’t take my word for it. Check out the video on the next page and see for yourself.
