Charlottesville-based coach Elliott Atwell was sentenced on Wednesday afternoon.
A 35-year-old bodybuilding coach has been sentenced to more than 20 years in prison on federal child exploitation and child pornography charges.
Charlottesville-based native Elliott Atwell, who pleaded guilty in 2024, exploited at least six minors over the course of six years. On Wednesday, he was brought in and sentenced officially to 254 months in a federal prison.
Acting United States Attorney Zachary T. Lee made a statement via the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of Virginia.
“I am grateful to the men and women of the FBI who tirelessly investigated this case and brought some semblance of justice to the victims. Cases like this remind us how vulnerable our young people are and how vigilant we must be to protect them from manipulative online predators.”
Atwell was originally indicted on these charges in 2023.

Elliott Atwell Sentenced In Child Exploitation Case
Elliott Atwell portrayed himself as an online bodybuilding coach who worked with high-school athletes. Between December 2013 and April 2020, Atwell enticed six minors to record themselves engaging in secually explicit conduct and then send recordings to him.
This was not the first time that Atwell has been accused of behavior such as this. There have been multiple complaints on social media about Atwell’s behavior. Many screenshots of alleged conversations with clients show Atwell asking for sexually explicit videos and photos.

The FBI searched Atwell’s iCloud account and it contained over 300 pictures and videos of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
In 2020, Atwell was arrested and charged after sending a 16-year-old male enhancement pills.
The FBI fully investigated this case. Special Agent in Charge Stanley M. Meador of the FBI Richmond Division also made a statement following sentencing:
“FBI Richmond is unwavering in its commitment to seeking justice for victims of child exploitation. Today’s guilty verdict is the culmination of years of relentless work and dedication by our agents and analysts. Together with our partners, the FBI will continue protecting our children by removing harmful predators from our communities.”
