Bodybuilding On The Rise In Ghana

Ghanian bodybuilding is hitting new heights.

President of Great Britain’s World Amateur Bodybuilding Association (WABBA), Trevor Chang, has repeatedly stated that bodybuilding has an especially bright future in Ghana, where many of their affiliate shows are hosted.

According to Modern Ghana, Chang attended a two-day conference dubbed the ‘Face of Fitness Gh’ and had the privilege of witnessing various exhibitions and contests at the International Students Guest Centre, Teiman, Oyarifa in Accra.

Chang urged local shows to be aggressive in pursuit of local talent and support of training facilities. In an interview with GNA Sports he expressed optimism about the future of bodybuilding in the region:

“WABBA Ghana are doing the right things by creating the awareness and exposure, and they are putting in place some top level competition. The plan for us now is to move towards a national team for Ghana at the Mr Universe contest in Estoril, Portugal.”

Chang especially praised the judges participating at the event. He says that an experienced and sharp judging panel is one of the most important aspects to a legitimate and attractive competitive scene.

“There is a future for Ghana’s bodybuilding and not everybody would pass the judging test but you would enough guys who will create a good judging panel and how contest are lost and won is the foundation of any good federation.”

Participants in the judging seminar were awarded certificates from the WABBA International.

The competitions themselves displayed a great deal of local talent, with Christopher Addo winning the Men’s Physique category and Seidu Omar dominating Open Bodybuilding.
