After Placing Fifth at the World’s Strongest Man, Brian Shaw Considers Retirement

Brian Shaw considers hanging it up.

Being at the top of any sport for an extended period of time is no easy feat. Living the life of a professional athlete means putting in countless hours of training and sacrifice. It means fully dedicating your mind and body to performing at a high level. It can be a draining experience to say the least.

The consideration for a top athlete to retire is always a difficult prospect. When you consider the fact that an competitor centers their entire life around competition it can truly be a hard choice to make to walk away from a given sport.

After his performance at the 2020 World’s Strongest Man, Brian Shaw has been faced with just that kind of choice. Taking fifth at the show, Brian Shaw is now seriously considering retirement.

In his latest YouTube video the strongman discussed his thought process after his most recent performance. At this point it appears that Shaw is noncommittal, but isn’t ruling it out.

“So many people are saying hey Brian you finished fifth, which is still top five, and they’re expecting me to walk away,” said Shaw.

“I’m not saying that I’m not doing that, but I’m also not saying at this point in time that I’m prepared to make a decision. The way I’m going to take things right now, is you learn from World’s Strongest Man, you process that, and you move forward. That’s the way that any champion in any sport, any great athlete, that’s the way you have to take it. I’m not going to dwell on that. I’m going to take the positives, and try to take the negatives and learn from that.”
