CANELO ALVAREZ TO CONOR MCGREGOR: “IF HE WANTS TO TRY OUT BOXING THEN ANYTIME HE WANTS”

How quickly the tide changes…

Before the highly anticipated rematch of Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor 2, a lot of celebrities gave in their predictions. Seeing as McGregor’s has had recent friction with Floyd Mayweather and the boxing community at large, it was surprising that one of boxing’s biggest stars, Canelo Alvarez, actually gave McGregor the thumbs up. Alvarez stated that this would be a “different fight” and rightly predicting McGregor securing a victory. However, the good blood went out the window when during a UFC 202 press conference McGregor lamented the age of fighters “cherry picking” their opponents, and cited Canelo Alvarez by name for vacating his WBC middleweight title instead of fighting his mandatory opponent WBA and IBF champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. https://youtu.be/UU8oleGY97A While I respect Conor McGregor for all that he does for fighting and the sport, he wants no part of Canelo Alvarez. They probably walk around at the same weight class but let’s face it, Canelo has K.O. power rarely seen. Can we all just make a consensus that the person that masters his respective sport will beat the other person who just dabbles in it? Will we ever see a competitive cross-sport matchup that washes the taste of Randy Couture vs. James Tony out of our mouths? Only time will tell. But for now let’s just take this words than nothing more than a bit of trash talking. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez takes on WBO junior middleweight champion Liam Smith on Sept. 17. Conor McGregor does not yet have his next fight lined up.
