Chris Bumstead plans to take on new challenges while remaining as muscular as possible.
Bodybuilding champion, Chris Bumstead might be done competing but that does not mean that he is not working toward anything moving forward. As the calendar turns to 2025, Bumstead is taking on a new level of fitness goals and he shared them during a recent video.
“I feel good right now but I know I’m going to need more purpose, more goals, more smart goals to achieve what I actually will make me feel fulfilled in fitness right now.”
After winning his sixth Classic Physique Olympia title in October 2024, Bumstead announced that he would be retiring. He took the stage one final time during the EVLS Prague Pro in Men’s Open and finished as the runner-up. Now, he is taking on new challenges and goals while remaining as big as possible.
Chris Bumstead Details Fitness Goals Moving Forward
Bumstead began by explaining how he plans to become more of a hybrid athlete moving forward. Despite feeling like he is going to get “hate” for this move, Bumstead wants to venture out into other areas.
“A hybrid athlete right now is someone who runs marathons and sometimes lifts, who used to lift and started running marathons but trying to hold on to as much muscle as possible. In my mind, a hybrid athlete is a lot more jacked than that and kind of runs.”

Bumstead has shared videos in the past dunking a basketball and taking on other explosive movements. That might have gone on the backburner a bit as he was working toward adding incredible size for the Olympia and his appearance in Prague.
This year, Chris Bumstead wants to focus on being more explosive and this will lead to other accomplishments.
“One of my broad goals this year is definitely to be a little bit more explosive. Exploding out of a squat, working towards those fast-twitch muscle fibers to be able to dunk, sprint, all that and still look jacked.”
Bumstead has acknowledged that he might never reach his level of size that was achieved to compete in Prague. While it might be a different direction, Bumstead’s fitness career will march on.
“It’s a weird realization to know I’ll never be as strong or as big or as shredded as I was two months ago ever again in my life so I have to create some new goals to keep myself pushing forward.”
