Chris Cormier talks about the rise of Jay Cutler and the moment Ronnie Coleman’s Olympia reign ended.

Chris Cormier is a legendary bodybuilder who was good friends with Ronnie Coleman. He stood beside Ronnie throughout the years and into his 8x Olympia reign. He was also there for the passing of the torch to Jay Cutler. In fact, Cormier shares some advice with Cutler that helped him improve his physique to the next level. In our latest GI Exclusive Vault interview, Chris Cormier discusses the advice he gave Jay Cutler and the transition from Ronnie Coleman’s reign to Cutler’s rise.

It’s no secret that Jay Cutler was stuck second to Ronnie Coleman for some time. Perhaps in any other era Jay Cutler would have earned Olympia victory sooner. Unfortunately, he was facing one of the best bodybuilders in the history of the sport.

But no champion lasts forever and Jay Cutler eventually defeated Ronnie. Cutler went on to maintain four Olympia wins. While it was certainly in part to Ronnie Coleman waning out of his prime, Cutler also showed improvements year after year.

In fact, some of those improvements might have been thanks to Chris Cormier. We talked at length with Cormier during the filming of Ronnie Coleman: The King. Only a small amount of his interview was able to make it into the final cut. That’s why we are releasing extended interview segments from our GI Vault with never before seen footage.

In this clip, Chris Cormier details how he saw Jay Cutler struggling to take his physique to the next level. Cutler’s physique was impressive – but needed further fine tuning to take it to Olympia champion level.

Cormier shared some advice with Cutler that he thinks ultimately help push Cutler towards that next level. What was the exact tip he shared? Deep tissue massages. While this might seem like a luxury to some, deep tissue massages are important for pro bodybuilders. You’ll notice in many of our documentaries that pro bodybuilders make sure to include this into their regimen.

This is because of the extreme pressure pro bodybuilders put on their bodies. It’s far beyond what a normal human would push themselves through. In order to aid in recovery and improve training performance – deep tissue massages can go a long way in helping perfect a physique.

While Chris Cormier can’t claim that his advice was the sole reason Jay Cutler later defeated Ronnie Coleman, he did notice a change in Cutler’s physique within the next year. Perhaps there is more too it, but Cormier would like to believe his advice at least partially helped Cutler eventually become Olympia champion.

You can also watch Chris Cormier go into detail about the final years of Ronnie Coleman’s Olympia success. He details his thoughts as to why Ronnie eventually fell after eight wins. He also shares his opinion on if Ronnie should have retired after losing to Jay Cutler instead of attempting one more shot at the title.
