The 2024 SBD Raleigh competition saw many lifters turn in eye-popping performances.

The 2024 SBD Raleigh took place recently and it was a chance for competitors to turn in their absolute best. For Devin Williams and Daniel Clements, that is exactly what happened. Both powerlifters, competing in separate divisions, set unofficial IPF World Records during their performance.

Daniel Clements Dominates Overall

While Williams was crushing bench, Daniel Clements was opening eyes at deadlift in the 66kg division. Clements was also successful in eight out of nine lifts and finished second at the competition among all weight classes.

In total, Clements set a new unofficial record with 717.5kg (1,581.8lb) spread across all three lifts. The official record is held by Kasemsand Senumong of 710.5kg (1,566.4lb), which was set during the 2022 AsianPF Asian Classic Powerlifting Championships.

Clements entered this competition healthy and ready to put on a show. It began with squats where he completed all three lifts and ended with a 252.5kg (556.7lb) triumph. He moved onto complete two out of his three attempts on the bench. Clements’ heaviest lift was 160kg (352.7lb). He attempted to throw on five more kilograms for his third attempt but was unsuccessful.

Finally, Clements knew what he needed to reach to capture the unofficial record. It ended with a 305kg (672.4lb) deadlift using a sumo stance. This was enough to secure the record and put others on notice.

Devin Williams Excels On Bench

Devin Williams entered the competition as one of the top bench pressers in the world. He was competing in the 120kg division, entering the show with a bodyweight of 119.6kg (263.7lb). He earned a podium finish after completing eight out of his nine lifts across all three exercises.

On bench, Williams put on a show during his lifts. He began with 240kg (529.1lb) and was able to get through it easily. For his second attempt, Williams loaded 255kg (562.2lb). Using a pair of wrist wraps only, Williams made this look easy as well. Despite reaching a new unofficial record, Williams wanted more but could not complete a 262.5kg (578.7lb) lift.

The official IPF world record in the U120kg is held by Dennis Cornelius. He set a mark of 253kg (557.8lb) during the IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships back in 2016.
