Before Yates, emphasis was placed greatly on the classic bodybuilding physique, V-Taper to a slim waist and devoted greatly to the symmetry. These are still important elements to building a proper physique, but at the time there was no one that placed as much emphasis on building massive muscle as the man known as The Shadow. Yates realized that in order to set himself apart from other competitors as well as the champions that came before him, he had to bring something different to the table. Instead of focusing purely on aesthetics, Yates wanted to make enough gains to completely dwarf the competition.
