Enhanced bodybuilders often go through cycles of steroid and PED use. What happens if they never cycle off?

Dr. Testosterone is one of a small selection of certified doctors who make it their mission to help improve the health and safety of bodybuilding. He understands that steroid and PED use will happen in the sport regardless of laws or regulation. That’s why he tries to help inform bodybuilders what they can do to be as safe as possible while also using PEDs. But what happens if a bodybuilder never comes off a steroid cycle? In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Dr. Testosterone details the massive effects never coming off a steroid cycle does to the body.

You’ve likely heard the term “steroid cycle” used in the bodybuilding world. While many fans understand this concept in detail, it’s important to point out that enhanced bodybuilders often use steroids and other PEDs in cycles. They are not on these drugs 24/7 every day of the year. They are used in a sort of schedule. Much like how there is an off season bulking and on season of shredding – there is a sort of off and on season for steroid use.

The reason for this is largely medical. It’s how bodybuilders can somewhat curb the dangerous side effects of steroid use while still gettin the benefits of performance enhancing drugs. But much like anything in this life – there will be those who wonder why they need to get off the cycle at all. Wouldn’t staying on just mean even better results?

During our conversation with Dr. Testosterone, we wanted him to hypothetically detail what would happen to the human body if it stayed on steroids non stop throughout the year. His answer should be an eye opener for anyone toying with the idea of ignoring steroid cycles.

While Dr. Testosterone gets rather technical in his answer, the key details in simple terms should be enough to make the dangers clear. A person’s heart will enlarge and harden, erectile disfunction will occur, and testicular shrinkage will also occur. Liver enzymes will also continue to be produced leading to serious liver damage in the long run. But of course it’s the details about the heart that are most damning. An enlarged heart can lead to bad heart health and ultimately a heart attack. This of course can lead to awful health effects and even death.

While it must be made clear that steroid use for recreational or sporting endeavors is illegal in the United States, it must also be made clear for those risking the drug what can happen if used incorrectly. There is a reason steroid cycles exist.
