In a Variety exclusive, the outlet announced that Generation Iron Network has acquired and will be releasing an inspiring documentary that delves into the extraordinary life of bodybuilder Tony Pearson. Titled Driven: The Tony Pearson Story, this captivating film will chronicle Pearson’s remarkable journey from a tumultuous childhood marred by abuse to becoming a renowned figure in the world of bodybuilding. The film will be released on all major digital platforms October 6, 2023.

Tony Pearson, often hailed as the “Michael Jackson of Bodybuilding,” defied expectations by entering his final bodybuilding contest at the age of 63. Throughout his illustrious career, Pearson clinched multiple titles, including Mr. America and Mr. Universe, and graced the covers of prestigious magazines, captivating audiences worldwide. Notably, Pearson’s groundbreaking couple’s routine at the Santa Monica Civic Center left spectators in awe, earning him a standing ovation.

Tony Pearson’s determination to overcome obstacles stemmed from a childhood marked by unspeakable abuse at the hands of his Auntie Bettie, who became his guardian at a tender age. Through poignant new interviews with Pearson and compelling footage from his bodybuilding career, Driven: The Tony Pearson Story will shed light on the lasting impact of Tony’s abusive upbringing and his unwavering resilience.

The documentary will feature additional interviews with Tony Pearson, offering an intimate glimpse into his life in Nevada. The production team, comprised of Director Andrew Menjivar, Producer Cameron A. Mitchell, and Producer Thresa Richardson, has been granted access to Tony’s Contacts List, enabling them to conduct insightful interviews with individuals from his past and present. Notably, Thresa Richardson’s unique perspective as someone who grew up under the roof of Joe and Betty Weider, renowned publishers in the fitness industry, adds depth to the storytelling process.
