Legendary Bodybuilder Frank Zane believes that Chris Bumstead has even more potential on stage.
Frank Zane is one of the all-time bodybuilding greats and continues to keep up with fitness at 81 years old. He found great success on stage decades ago and recently discussed where he believes he would fit in during today’s era of bodybuilding. During his career, Frank Zane became known for his battles with the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
In 1968, Zane took home a Mr. America and Mr. Universe title to go along with his three Olympias. Even though he is decades out of competition, Zane still has the mind and motivation to not only train himself but to share his knowledge with the next generation. In this post, Zane discusses how the reining Classic Physique champion still has more potential on the bodybuilding stage.
Frank Zane also speaks on how the times in the sport have changed and he believes he could have adapted to it. It might not be in Men’s Open but Zane claims he would “probably” compete in Classic Physique.
“I was never big. The most I weighed and looked good was 190 pounds at 5-foot-9. You know that doesn’t cut it. I’d have to weigh about 30 pounds more to stand on stage next to these monsters.”
Zane continued to discuss the division and it began with four-time Mr. Olympia champ Chris Bumstead.
Frank Zane Discusses Chris Bumstead
Frank Zane has noticed all of what Chris Bumstead has done over the years. Even after winning four-consecutive Classic Physique Olympia titles, Zane believes that there is more in the tank.
“I think he’s got a lot of potential. I think he could do a lot more. He’s a pretty big guy too. He’s like 235…If I were to give him advice, I’d say work on more peak to your biceps. Because when he does his bicep shot, the biceps are sort of flat. They don’t really standout that much but he’s got everything else. He’s got the size and he’s compared to Arnold a lot.”

While discussing Bumstead’s comparison to Arnold Schwarzenegger, Zane spoke on how he would look to Arnold for advice.
“I used to rely on Arnold a lot for advice after he retired from competition. And I said, I went up and said, ‘Arnold, what do you think I should do, should I enter this competition?’ He said ‘yeah. I would go to Australia to defend my title.’ He said he was going to be there but just a color commentator. Of course, that was a lie. He went there to compete. In Australia, he really wasn’t at his best.”
Frank Zane continues to be an influential voice in bodybuilding and is up to date with the current happenings in the sport. Bumstead might be the biggest star in the sport today and Zane believes he can take it up a notch higher.
