Hafthor Bjornsson will look to deadlift the insane weight using an elephant bar at the Arnold Strongman Classic!
Hafthor Bjornsson has been one of the all-time greats Strongmen over the course of his career. The Icelandic strongman and former “World’s Strongest Man” winner, renowned for his unmatched feats of strength, will now take on a new challenge during the 2025 Arnold Strongman Classic.

Bjornsson currently holds the all-time deadlift world record at 501 kilograms (1,104.5 pounds), and has continued to train to reach these levels once again. Bjornsson’s recent feat of moving 430kg for a double proves that he is just getting started in the deadlift game.
In 2020, Bjornsson took a break from Strongman following his legendary 501kg lift. Bjornsson set his sights on boxing and went through an insane physique transformation on his way to reaching his goals. This included a victory over fellow Strongman Eddie Hall. It is clear that he has been working hard to overcome different setbacks, specifically a torn pec that forced him to miss time, to return to his best form.
Hafthor Bjornsson Accepts Deadlift Challenge
The challenge will take place during the Arnold Strongman Classic, which is scheduled to take place from Feb. 28-March 1 in Columbus, OH.
“First man in history to deadlift more than 500kg raw? Challenge accepted.”
Hafthor Bjornsson currently holds the all-time deadlift record of 501kg but no man has reached this number with an elephant bar, which is wider than a standard barbell. The elephant bar is more difficult to lift as it gets higher off the ground due to its overall flexibility, making it tricky to control.
This has been no problem for Bjornsson in the past. He currently holds the elephant bar deadlift world record of 474kg (1,045lbs), which he set back in 2019. This came during his first go round in Strongman and he is now attempting to break his own record here.
