Should Hafthor Bjornsson Have Won The World’s Strongest Man?

Did the judges drop the ball.

While bodybuilding is a central focus on this website, Generation Iron loves to explore all manner of different athletic competitions. Strongman is the cousin of powerlifting and even bodybuilding. All three of these endeavors have to deal with strength related competitions and proving yourself to be the elite, the alpha, the best among the best. The World’s Strongest Man competition pits the best strongmen in the world against each other in an attempt to decide who deserves the much coveted title. Once again we saw a field of familiar names and faces, namely fan favorite Hafthor Bjornsson.

When he’s not playing The Mountain on Game of Thrones, Hafthor Bjornsson can be seen at strongman competitions crushing the opposition. While he may not have won the title in past years, he has certainly shown his mettle in the long standing competition and has come close to winning the title on numerous occasions.

American born Brian Shaw was always the one obstacle that stood in his way, but this year things were different. But despite that fact, Hafthor Bjornsson still came in second place behind British competitor Eddie Hall. What makes it all the more soul crushing for Bjornsson is that he was on the cusp of victory. One rep away to be exact. Take a look at the Instagram posting by Hafthor Bjornsson that explains what occurred at The World’s Strongest Man competition.

Do you think Hafthor Bjornsson deserved to win The World’s Strongest Man competition? Were the judges being too harsh?
