HAFTHOR “THE MOUNTAIN” BJORNSSON PROVES HE IS THE STRONGEST MAN IN EUROPE

Generation Iron Strongest Man Europe

Another strongman stands tall this past weekend.

Bodybuilding is dominated by individuals that grew up on comic books, television, and action flicks, all of which embodied the epitome of the human form. With characters like the Incredible Hulk, Superman, and Goku, many a bodybuilder has not only been impressed by the physiques of these fictional heroes, but their superior strength as well. Who wouldn’t want to be able to lift up a tank like the Hulk or move mountains like Goku. Bodybuilding is more about sculpting the ultimate physical form, but for many that in itself isn’t enough. You have to have the strength to go along with it.

The athletes that compete in strongman competitions are likely to be inspired by the same comic book characters that have given inspiration to many bodybuilders. The difference is that they’re more concerned about how much they can lift over their heads rather than just looking aesthetic. Their ideology stems from being the alpha, the strongest guy in the room that all others should respect or fear, maybe even both.

There are few men that can compete at the highest levels of strongman competitions. They require extreme focus and desire much like professional bodybuilding. It’s not a sport that you can take lightly. It requires focus, dedication, and an unbreakable will. To compete on the world stage is to face off against the strongest men on the planet.

This year at the Europe’s Strongest Man competition, a familiar face emerged from the ashes to capture the crown for the second straight year. Hafthor Bjornsson is known for his role as the Mountain on HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones. Standing at six feet, nine inches tall and weighing well over three hundred pounds, the Icelandic born strongman would go on to dominate the competition at this year’s event. He took to Instagram to celebrate.

If that wasn’t enough, here’s a video of Hafthor cementing his claim.
