Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury Preview: Who Will Get The KO?

Jake Paul and Tommy Fury are ready to settle the score.

Jake Paul and Tommy Fury will do battle this weekend in Saudi Arabia. The two have built up a pretty intense feud and are now ready to settle the score.

The time has finally come for Jake Paul and Tommy Fury to lock horns in the ring. After an extended back-and-forth between both burgeoning, young boxers, not to mention canceled meetings between the two, Paul and Fury will finally get to put their feud to bed. Set to battle at Diriyah Arena in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, both men are battling for bragging rights and hope to prove that their respective hype trains are legitimate.

Paul Keys to Victory

Touted as the “Problem Child” Jake Paul has showcase that his boxing abilities are indeed legit. While no one will mistake him for a champion level competitor, he does have adequate snap on his punches and decent strategies when competing in the ring. In his last about against former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, Paul showed a level of slickness, foot work, and his heavy hands en route to victory. But despite the impressive performance, Paul still doesn’t have the full backing of the combat sports community. That could stem from the fact that he’s still fighting opponents, who are either under sized or far past their prime. This bout with Tommy Fury will allow him the opportunity to face off with an opponent, closer to his age, size and abilities.

If Jake Paul hopes to defeat his rival in Fury he will need to mix things up and exchanges. Paul does his best work when he’s changing levels, working behind the jab, and timing is overhand right. From his last few performances, it’s clear that his overhand right is a devastating power punch and a key weapon in his arsenal. He should mix things up to the head and the body to keep Fury guessing. A jab up top, and then a right hand to the body will allow Paul to open up an eventual overhand right to the head. Another good set up would be a jab to the body going straight into the overhand right. The key is to keep Fury guessing, and be unpredictable while not overthrowing his punches.

Fury Keys to Victory

Looking to step out of the shadow of his famous older half brother Tyson Fury, Tommy Fury is looking to establish himself as a legit boxer in his own right. With very little amateur experience before turning pro, Fury is at a similar experience level to his opponent, Jake Paul. He is also three years Paul’s junior and perhaps the first man to truly match is better rival in size.

While many have attributed his rise to notoriety, because of his brother heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, Tommy Fury is hoping to put those talking points to bed by devastating Jake Paul this weekend.

If Tommy Fury hopes to secure a victory this weekend he’ll need to employ a strategy a bit different than he’s used to. In many of his fight so far, Fury has showed a propensity to come forward, recklessly hoping to land with big power. It’s clear he sees himself as a knockout artist, and obviously believes it has power. However, engaging in a all out pressure fight against Jake, Paul could prove to be his undoing. Instead, Fury should fight behind his job and land, timely write hooks to the body. After establishing a pattern, he could eventually mix things up within right uppercut, or a straight right hand. He has also shown some ability to fight going backwards, being able to land a fade back straight right hand. He’ll have to be careful in doing so and move to his right side to avoid Paul’s big overhand right.

X-Factors

Some things to consider in this fight is the fact that Jake Paul has experience going eight rounds. The longest fight for Tommy Fury was in his last outing, a six round affair against Rolly Lambert. While Fury didn’t look winded at all the performance, Paul does have the advantage in ring time experience. While Paul has shown signs of fatigue in the past, his experience with tougher competition, despite their limitations, should give him the edge in this department. Keeping a close eye on both men’s gas tank should definitely be a point of interest.
