Priest enjoyed a career on stage that spanned into three decades. He has had the chance to compete against legendary bodybuilders like Flex Wheeler, Shawn Ray, and Chris Cormier. Before calling it a career in 2013, Priest won the NABBA Mr. Universe competition. Priest quickly became known for his incredible conditioning and massive biceps.
Priest began competing on stage at 13 years old and was able to turn it into an extremely successful career. He remains influential in bodybuilding, sharing different thoughts and opinions in retirement.
Ed Connors Labels Lee Priest The Greatest Ever
Jay Cutler asked Ed Connors his opinion on the best bodybuilder. They both picked out Lee Priest and Connors believes he would have been a multi-time Mr. Olympia he if he was taller.
“Like you, I’ve said Lee Priest because I knew of what he was doing at his age when I met him. I mean, I’ve never met a 20-year-old that looked like Lee. If he had been two inches taller, he would have been Mr. Olympia for years but he was just short enough in the legs, the proportions weren’t quite perfect.”
When he was not preparing for a competition, Lee Priest would put on more weight and hang around 270 pounds. Connors recalls seeing Priest when he was out of prep and marveled at his build.
“I would be at the firehouse and I was like ‘oh, there’s Lee Priest’ and the person I’m with would say ‘that’s not Lee Priest.’ He was maybe 270. He loved to eat. Had the 212 class been around, maybe that would have been his key to success.”
Lee Priest may be one of the more controversial pro bodybuilders within the fine history of the sport. However, beyond the bans and shocking statements – Lee Priest is also a bodybuilder who held an iconic physique. During his prime years he was a force to be reckoned with and his massive arms are still fawned over to this day.
