Jeff Mayweather Says Floyd Can Beat Conor McGregor In MMA Using His Legs

Floyd Mayweather has no chance inside the octagon. Or does he?

Floyd Mayweather has been making a lot of headlines recently, teasing an entrance into MMA. Among his most latest social media releases is this – a rendering of Floyd in the Octagon with his brand’s TMT acronym instead of UFC.

One idea that has been floating around somehow has been that Floyd himself will fight Conor McGregor MMA. Floyd’s Uncle Jeff Mayweather took to the Mayweather Boxing youtube channel to address these rumors saying:

“He has a chance because, first of all, he’s way faster than Conor, he’s way more elusive than Conor, and he punches harder than Conor. It’s about Floyd using his legs, being smart. If Floyd gets kicked or elbowed or gets kneed, anything like that, of course, the chances are he’s gonna lose.”

At least he’s somewhat honest. Floyd certainly is faster than Conor, even pushing 40 years old, he is certainly more elusive than Conor, and might actually punch harder. Conor has been known for his knockouts in MMA, but the truth is that they have been products of accumulation and precision, rather than raw hitting power. The clean left uppercut he landed on Floyd didn’t even slow the veteran boxer’s advance.

But Jeff says Mayweather would be more elusive within MMA rules:

“If Floyd uses his legs – and I’m talking about to f—king dance around (and move), ain’t no f—king running around. This is part of boxing, (and) MMA fighters do it too. But they can’t do it as well as him, and that’s the difference.”

Despite the media attention, most fans realize that this fight will never happen. However, the picture posted by Mayweather is an intriguing one. It might reveal his true intention. Boxing fans realize that Floyd has been an extremely successful boxer and self-promoter, but a somewhat less successful promoter of other fighters under his TMT banner. The greatest asset in his stable to date is Gervonta “Tank” Davis, who is essentially known for destroying weak competition and avoiding Vasyl Lomachenko. It is highly likely that Floyd sees MMA as a fresh promotional ground, somewhere to expand his business and brand. He was even in talks to sign Jon Jones under his TMT banner before the light heavyweight champion’s brand-trashing car wreck.

If this is Floyd’s goal, he’s certainly doing a decent job at keeping his name in the mind of every MMA fan.
