According Teammate Jon Jones Is A Victim of Foul Play, But Does That Make Sense?

One man believes Jon Jones has been set up.

UFC 214 was one of the biggest mixed martial arts events of the year featuring then champion Daniel Cormier and former champion Jon Jones in the main event. Many story lines surrounded the momentous event, validation and redemption being the most prominent. It appeared that the redemption of Jon Jones would be the main story line after all things were said and done. But then August 22, 2017 came around and everything got turned on its head. Jon Jones failed an in competition drug test meaning that his win over Daniel Cormier could be overturned into a no contest.

In the wake of the alarming news of Jon Jones’ failed drug test, the inevitable question of foul play has arisen. Frank Lester, a teammate of Jon Jones, is claiming that the failed drug test is nothing but a set up. You can read Frank Lester’s full statement below.

While foul play is certainly a possibility, you have to question why the UFC or other parties involved would want to do such a thing. Right now the sport needs stars and judging from the exceptional Pay-Per-View numbers, Jon Jones is undoubtedly a man that the UFC can depend on to bring in major revenue. So why would you set him up, especially when he can be such a great asset?

Sample B of Jones’ drug test still needs to be put under the microscope and who knows, maybe it comes out clean. Maybe everything was simply just a lab error. Until then, passing judgment either way is pretty much futile. If it was a mistake it’s still hard to believe the situation to be foul play, especially considering that this game is all about dollars and cents, something in which Jon Jones is adept at generating. But if Jones’ sample is indeed legit, then this could be the end of the road for one of the most naturally gifted fighters to ever compete.

One way or another, the truth of the situation will be uncovered.

What do you make of these allegations and Jon Jones testing positive for steroids?
