UFC’s Jon Jones faces potential jail time following alleged threat to an officer.
UFC star Jon Jones has been charged with two misdemeanors following an incident in March where he was accused of threatening a drug testing agent. According to the New Mexico Courts website, Jones has been charged with assault and interference with communications.
Jones could serve jail time of less than a year if convicted, along with fines up to $1,500 combined for both charges. A virtual bond hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, July 17 in Albuquerque Metropolitan Court where Jones will enter a plea.
The original incident occurred on March 30 when agents from Drug Free Sport were sent to Jones’ home to collect a random sample. Crystal Martinez, who is an agent from the UFC’s anti-doping partner, claimed that Jones “appeared agitated” after he was offered the opportunity for a blood test. Jones could not produce a urine sample and was given another option but was not fond of it.
Jones then began questioning the agents and claimed that he was going to sue them. Martinez then said Jones grabbed her phone and began recording them.
Jon Jones’ Response To Allegations
In April, Jon Jones made a statement where he denied all allegations from the agent.
“I was recently visited by testers while I was celebrating a birthday and taking a nap. Upon waking up, I was caught off guard bu the unprofessionalism and protocol by one of the testers, which caused frustration leading me to use profanity I regret. However, I want to emphasize that at no point did I threaten, get in anyone’s face, raise my voice to anyone, or engage in any form of assault.”
This statement goes against the claims of Martinez who, according to MMA Fighting, told police that she was “terrified” and “afraid Jones might hit her.”

“It’s unfortunate that false news has been spread without proper fact-checking. I want to assure you that I will vigorously defend myself against these baseless accusations. The truth is, the incident simply did not occur.”
Jon Jones is preparing to return to UFC after suffering a torn pectoral tendon in March 2023. He is lined up to defend his title against Stipe Miocic at Madison Square Garden in November.
