Khabib Nurmagomedov Mocks “Burger King” Conor McGregor, Says UFC Is For “Real Fighters”

Khabib Nurmagomedov makes light of the burger king Conor McGregor.

UFC Lightweight and burgeoning global superstar Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov filmed an interview with Kevin Lole of Yahoo Sports ahead of his UFC 223 title fight with Tony Ferguson. He talked through many topics, including the soon-to-be-stripped Lightweight champion Conor McGregor.

Even though he holds the belt, McGregor has only fought one fight at Lightweight, against Eddie Alvarez, who does not exactly have a sterling MMA record. This has led to a lot of controversy over the legitimacy of McGregor’s belt. And of course Khabib took the opportunity to poke fun at McGregor’s new deal with Burger King.

“A lot of people call him like a king but he’s not like a king. He’s now Burger King. He has money, he has good life, he’s a famous guy. I think it’s better for him if he stay away from good fighters in the Lightweight division. For me, too, because when you go to the cage with me it’s not like you’re going to cage with Burger King. This is different. That’s why he has to stay away. This is for real fighters.”

McGregor has not fought in MMA in well over a year. His belt is expected to be stripped and handed to the winner of Nurmagomedov versus Interim champion Tony Ferguson. Khabib said he doesn’t think McGregor would be eager to fight either of them:

“I think he wants easy fights like when he fights [Floyd] Mayweather. He don’t need to come back preparing for five rounds, versus tough wrestling guy who is going to take you down and smash your face. He has to look nice to promote something like Burger [King] or other businesses. He has to look nice.”

Ferguson and Nurmagomedov will decide the new Lightweight champion in the main event of UFC 223 on April 7 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
