Dr. Layne Norton has overcome many obstacles to get to where he is. Physically, he has battled back from multiple injuries to set a new PR deadlift of 725 pounds.

Dr. Layne Norton, a distinguished figure in natural bodybuilding and powerlifting, transformed from a once skinny competitor with underdeveloped legs into a world record holder, squatting an impressive 668 lbs (303 kg) at the 2015 IPF. Norton, who holds a Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences, has clinched five national and international titles, underscoring his expertise and dedication to the field.
Over the last seven years, Norton has dealt with a string of injuries. He shared the full list on Instagram:
- 2 lumbar herniation
- 2 bulged lumbar discs
- 2 Cervical herniation
- Partially torn muscles in each hip
- Partially torn adductor
- Partially torn pec
“After I won back to back open nationals in 2014 & 2015, that began the most stressful 7 year period of my life. Not surprisingly that is when I dealt with the most pain & injuries (stress increases injury risk & decreases pain tolerance)”

Layne Norton has recovered from his injuries and is preparing for his next competition in six weeks.

Layne Norton discussed some methods he used to manage pain over the last decade. This includes stress management, better sleep, load management, and exposure therapy. This has allowed Norton to prepare himself mentally and physically for what gets thrown his way. The payoff seems to be huge as Norton hit a new PR deadlift at 42 years old.
