The 2024 World’s Strongest Man will be without two major competitors.

Martins Licis and Mateusz Kieliszkowski are two of the top competitors in Strongman with great history. Both have championships under their belts but will have to wait for the next one. Both Licis and Kieliszkowski have withdrawn from the 2024 World’s Strongest Man competition.

Licis won the World’s Strongest Man crown in 2019 before suffering some bad luck that kept him out of competition. He was able to return to prominence in 2021 by winning the Rogue Invitational. This year, he is already off to a hot start. Licis won the 2022 Arnold Strongman Classic before taking time off to focus on other ventures in his life.

During a recent video, Licis shared that he has been dealing with an injury to his sciatica and will be sidelined.

“This year, in January, when sciatica hit, I developed an ego and thought I could just push through it. Where, in the past, I would take every single step necessary in physical therapy to keep it at bay and also recover from it.”

Mateusz Kieliszkowski began competing in 2014 at the age of 21. He has 10 victories, including five Poland’s Strongest Man titles. He has been apart of the World’s Strongest Man four times and finished second in 2019.

Kieliszkowski was forced to miss the World’s Strongest Man competition in both 2020 and 2022. Two years ago, he was forced to miss the WSM competition with lower leg problems that did not allow him to train to the level he needed to.

Like many other strongman competitors, Martins Licis is constantly looking for different ways to test and improve his strength. As such, Licis has been embarking on a journey of strength. He has been traveling across the globe, seeking out different methods of training for strength as well as competing in various sports along the way.

Both competitors will work to recover and return to the Strongman stage. Martins Licis and Mateusz Kieliszkowski have long histories and can win moving forward.
