Former Wrestling Star Matt Morgan On The Rise In Bodybuilding

Former wrestling star looks to make his mark on the stage

Matthew Morgan has been through the gauntlet when it comes to athletic exhibition. He competed in the 1996 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament before committing to WWE and TNA wrestling. Following his departure from wrestling after a long and lucrative career he appeared on American Gladiators. Now it seems that the star is unsatisfied and will compete at a men’s physique contest. Matt told FLEX Magazine that:

“After I retired from wrestling, I wanted to do something to push myself and feel that adrenaline rush I used to have when I was in front of the large crowds kicking butt in the ring. My wife, Larissa and some friends were talking about how I would stand out if I were to compete in a bodybuilding show. I thought about it and decided right then that I was going to do it, and men’s physique felt like the right division for me.”

Morgan competed for the first time in 2015, and although he placed fourth, for the man who had lived a life of competition, it only invested him more. This past year he completed his second year as an NPC men’s physique athlete. His highest placement was in the men’s physique master’s division at the NPC Ocala Cup Classic, where he took second. Expect to see him compete in 2017, sponsored by 5% Nutrition. He also works with coaches A.J. and Nikki Sims and credits their influence to his success and affection for the sport.

“I need whomever I’m working with to be as dedicated as I am and to tell me step by step what I need to do. A.J. and Nikki are awesome at what they do, and it’s been great working with them. I have no doubt the next time you see me onstage I will be in my best condition ever.”

At seven feet tall and 300 pounds Morgan should be hard to miss ant any physique masters contest. But perhaps his greatest attributes are a lifetime of competitive experience and a relative newcomer’s passion for the craft.
