You’ll never guess what the actor’s next project is…
Mickey Rourke, actor, athlete, and notably the narrator of Generation Iron is a man of many talents. After a career renaissance the actor has been making waves in the film industry and was pivotal in bringing that serious and professional tone to the Generation Iron movie. If pro bodybuilders like Kai and Phil were the faces of Generation Iron – Mickey Rourke was definitely the voice.
As talented an actor as he is, it’s easy to forget that the man was once a professional boxer with a record of 6-0-2. Not a particularly astounding record by boxing standards, where most prominent pros have upwards of thirty bouts. Besides, Rourke is an actor now and all that boxing stuff is in the past…or is it?
Apparently the actor is poised to return to the ring this Friday in Moscow, Russia. That’s right, November 28 will mark the return of Rourke to the boxing scene. You have to wonder why a 62 year old actor has chosen now to return to the sweet science after so many years away from the sport. And by all accounts it seems like the actor is taking things serious for his return by training with prominent trainer Freddy Roach. His opponent is 1-9 out of his last 10 fights, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t pose a threat to Rourke, and having Roach in his corner is an indication that Rourke is thinking the same.
Rourke’s choice to return to the sport after being away for so long is a testament to his drive and passion towards pursuing his dreams. He doesn’t care about the public’s opinion or the naysayers, as his love of the sport far outweighs any reservations for his return. Win, lose or draw, Generation Iron will be here to support Mickey and update you on the results.
