Mitchell Hooper has been eyeing 505kg and will attempt this record-setting lift in September.
Strongman’s Mitchell Hooper has stayed true to his word about setting the all-time deadlift world record.
During a sit down with Muscle Insider in March, Hooper shared that he plans to go after the deadlift world record and set his own mark of 505kg. On Tuesday, Hooper shared a video explaining when and where this attempt will happen and why he is confident.

“The reality is, my Strongman career, there’s not much left that means much to me. I’ve won literally everything. I’ve had a world record. But being the man to lift the most weight from the floor to your waist, probably the most common movement in gyms, that’s iconic.”
Hafthor Bjornsson currently holds the world record deadlift using a standard bar at 501kg. He broke Eddie Hall’s record of 500kg, becoming the second man ever to reach this mark. Bjornsson has held this record for years now and it has been something that he has gone back and forth with Hall about. Hooper wants to put all talking to an end and set his own mark.
Mitchell Hooper Talks Deadlift World Record Attempt
Hooper discussed what it takes to prepare for a record-setting lift such as this. Once he built up the announcement, he shared that it will go down at the 2025 World Deadlift Championships on Sept. 6 in Birmingham, England. This is where Eddie Hall previously set his record.
“I said let’s do it where Eddie did it, under the same circumstances with the same conditions and end this beef all in all.”
Mitchell Hooper feels confident about his attempt and it stems from a previous lift in training wearing a deadlift suit.
“The 1,000-pound deadlift the first time in a suit from a few days ago. That could have been 480-485 kilos to top out. Just practicing in the suit will get me close to 505.”
Hooper has been busy over the last few years. After his win at the 2023 World’s Strongest Man, many believed the sky was the limit for Mitchell Hooper. With a brand of humor all his own and a marketable personality, Hooper appeared to be taking his career to the next level. And while he may not have won the 2024 WSM, his subsequent victory at the 2024 Giants Live Strongman Classic showed that his ranking hasn’t fallen off whatsoever.
