OPEN WEIGHT VS CLASSIC PHYSIQUE: WHAT’S BEST FOR CODY MONTGOMERY?

Generation Iron Cody Montgomery Classic Physique

Where will Cody Montgomery shine?

Bodybuilding is a sport with a rich and traditional history, one that has seen many stars rise and fall, become superstars and changed the game. The athletes during the Golden Era of bodybuilding are considered to possess some of the best physiques the sport has ever seen. It’s the reason why many different people have been clamoring for a division that caters to more of the classic style of bodybuilding as opposed to the open weight division that highlights the mass monsters.

Everyone has differing opinions on what they believe an optimal physique should look like, but what most people can agree on is that aesthetics are something that bodybuilding has strayed away from. The fact that building muscle above all else has been the focus of heavyweight bodybuilding these days shows how much of a difference there is between present day bodybuilding and what was featured in the 1970s and 1980s.

The Classic Physique division is set to be the big change that Golden Era fans have been waiting to see. Once again aesthetics will be put on full display and already there are major contenders for the top spot in the newly created division, namely Sadik Hadzovik. But there is another bodybuilder that has gained popularity recently, one who has only just begun his bodybuilding journey.

Cody Montgomery is a top prospect that could make some waves in the world bodybuilding. He has been competing in the heavier weight classes and has proven that he has the potential to be a bodybuilding champion. But as he enters the fray some are wondering if the young man should be trying his hand in the open weight division or if he should instead consider competing in the classic physique division.

On the one hand the open weight bodybuilding is where a great deal of the money and accolades are at. But if he was able to dominate the classic physique division then he could potentially carve out his own legend, free of the stigma of having to compete against the heavyweights like Kai Greene and Phil Heath. Instead he can be his own man, someone who could create his own buzz in the newly minted division. Cody isn’t the largest bodybuilder out there so it’s definitely feasible that he could compete in the division with little to no discomfort. He could be a big fish in a small pond and create his own legend that he can be proud of.

So what do you think? Should Cody Montgomery join the classic physique or open weight division? Let us know in the comments and forums. Also, be sure to follow Generation Iron on Facebook and Twitter.
