Pitbull Torres speaks of his time working with Rich Piana and the recent drug addiction claims made by Mac Trucc.

Pitbull Torres is a powerhouse lifter who has caught a lot of eyeballs through the years on social media. His pedigree earned him time involved with two strength athlete groups – Strength Cartel and Rich Piana’s 5% family. Sadly, Rich Piana passed away in 2017 due to complications with his heart. In the years since his passing, we’ve been speaking with athletes who knew him to reflect on his legacy. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Pitbull Torres looks talks about Rich Piana’s legacy and if it’s changed in light of drug addiction comments made by Mac Trucc.

Pitbull Torres is one of a select few strength athletes who got to know Rich Piana personally. He was noticed by Piana due to his intense social media videos showcasing powerful lifts. Shortly after meeting Piana, Pitbull went on to break the American squat record at 165lb body weight squatting 640lbs. In the same meet, he broke the American bench record and placed top three in the world with a total of 1,642lbs. More recently, he competed at the US open in 2018 and 2019. His best total was 1,804lbs.

He ended up leaving 5% Nutrition and headed to other successes, but he will always remember his time spent with Rich Piana and 5% Nutrition. It’s part of the foundation that skyrocketed his brand. That’s why when we sat down with Pitbull for an interview, we asked him to reflect on the man behind the persona of Rich Piana.

Pitbull Torres reveals he was a fan of Rich Piana before he even met him. To eventually be able to work with Piana and make videos with him once a week was a dream come true for him. He thinks that the legacy Rich left behind will be remembered for years to come – and that the real Rich Piana was a very skillful and smart man who knew how to use social media to motivate people around the globe.

We also asked Pitbull about the recent comments Mac Trucc have made, including in our own GI Exclusive interview, revealing that Rich Piana was addicted to drugs. Does he think that Piana’s legacy looks different with that kind of information made public? Pitbull decides to focus on the positive.

“He left a good legacy,” Pitbull states, “He has his downfalls and stuff like that but I respect the guy and he left good legacy for him. I think a lot of people will remember him forever.”
