Engelbrecht continues to impress in all lifts during his performances.
Colton Engelbrecht has been on a tear in the gym recently. He has shared many eye-popping lifts while preparing to compete for the first time in 2026. Engelbrecht took the stage during the 2026 Siberian Power Show on Saturday in Russia where he impressed those in attendance.
During the competition, Engelbrecht headlined his performance with a 520kg (1,146.4lb) sumo deadlift. Because he used lifting straps, it was an unofficial lift as this is not allowed in powerlifting. He stepped up to the bar with a lifting belt and straps and used a sumo stance.
What makes this lift even more impressive is that it came after competing in the full competition. Engelbrecht reached 430kg (948lb) squatting, 275kg (606.3lb) on the bench press, and 450kg (992lb) deadlifts. This came to a Raw Total of 1,155kg (2,546.3), which is more than the current U140kg World Record.
Engelbrecht also attempted to join the exclusive 500kg-deadlift club. He loaded the weight on the bar and came close on his first attempt before losing his grip a few inches shy of locking out. He had issues with his grip once again on the second attempt, falling short but proving that he is not far away.
Colton Engelbrecht’s Dominant Powerlifting Career
Colton Engelbrecht has proved to be one of the top powerlifters in the world. While this was his first competition this year, the South African lifter has put on dominant performances in recent years.
In 2025, Engelbrecht became the first person to reach a 1,200kg raw total during the WPC Clash of Titans. He entered the competition already holding the all-time total world records in the 110kg and 125kg classes. In the latter, Engelbrecht reached 1,120kg total during the WPC-SA Beastmode Power Wars meet in 2024, which came within range of Dan Bell’s all-time total record.
During this record-setting meet last year, Engelbrecht competed at 120kg bodyweight. These are the lifts he used to get to his total:
- Squats – 470kg (1,036.2 pounds)
- Bench Press – 260kg (573.2 pounds)
- Deadlifts – 470kg (1,036.2 pounds)
- Total – 1,200kg (2,645.6 pounds)
It is important to note that Colton Engelbrecht also attempted a 500kg deadlift during this competition. He brought the bar to his knees during this attempt but dropped it before locking out. It was believed that he had more in the tank here and could reach the mark soon. That remains the case as he came close once again over the weekend.
