World-record holder John Haack led Eric Bugenhagen in the monster lift attempt.
John Haack is one of the great powerlifters on the planet and continues to take his accomplishments to the next level. While at home in Wisconsin, Haack was joined by former WWE star Eric Bugenhagen for a deadlift session where the two attempted an insane 804-pound lift.
Haack holds many records in powerlifting and even began competing in Strongman. He recently broke the 90kg all-time ra squat record at 365.5kg. From there, he made his debut at the 2024 Official Strongman Games in the u90kg division. Haack came out sixth during the event. He is no stranger to insane deadlifts, obviously, and decided to load up a Mammoth deadlift bar during his session with Bugenhagen.
A Mammoth bar is made to use during squats, deadlifts, and bench press. This is because of the overall size and strength of the bar itself, which weighs around 60 pounds. For this session, the duo tested the strength of the bar with plenty of weight.
John Haack & Eric Bugenhagen Attack Deadlifts
The deadlift session began with initial warmup lifts, which both weightlifters went through with ease. When it was time for the ultimate goal, Bugenhagen wanted to know how it was possible to lift 900 pounds. Haack’s response was a simple “I don’t know,” but did offer some coaching tips.
“Don’t yank off the ground. Pull then use tension to pull your hips down first.”
Bugenhagen attempted the 804-pound lift but was unable to lock out at the top. He was able to lift it off the ground but no further. Bugenhagen still set a new personal best at 782 pounds.
Haack stepped up and completely the lift while making it look easy. During the video, he shared more tips and secrets on how to improve your deadlift.
“Romanian deadlifts using a rack improve my deadlift more than anything. My deadlift goes directly up. I was doing high-rep Axle deadlifts. I switched back to powerlifting and my deadlift blew up.”
