Is Bodybuilding The True Fountain OF Youth? These Older Bodybuilders Prove Yes

Life extension through weight training

The Fountain of Youth is a spring that supposedly restores the youth of anyone who drinks or bathes in its waters. Many people are still in search of the answer to longevity yet bodybuilders seem to have found it long ago.

Take a look a golden era bodybuilder Robby Robinson. The man with the incredible shape and symmetry we all saw in the legendary film Pumping Iron. 40 Years later and not much has changed for the Black Prince. Although slightly grayer, at 70 years young Robby Robinson is still pumping iron and sporting a physique that can turn heads in any gym. With over 300 contests to his name, Robinson is showing no signs of slowing down. Has Robby found this mythical fountain of youth?

Robby isn’t the only one, clearly he has shared some of his wisdom with iron brother Lou Ferrigno! At 63 the incredible hulk is still maintaining a physique that once rivaled Arnold Schwarzenegger at the 1975 Olympia. Even since retiring from professional bodybuilding in 1994 Weight training is still a staple in his daily routine.

Still need more proof? If you happen to be looking for the 1980 IFBB Professional Mr. International champion, you can find him in the gym. That’s right, Andrias Cahling still walks around in competition shape over 35 years later. With a competition history spanning from 1969 to 1993 Cahling has yet to leave his iron roots behind. If anyone has found the fountain of youth, it must by bodybuilders!

There’s more than just anecdotal evidence however. Scientist have food a clear correlation between muscle mass and longevity. Not only should proper nutrition a lifestyle habits be a part of anyone’s age prevention strategies, but a good daily dose of pumping iron as well. With so many stereotypes and negative comments being thrown around in regards to bodybuilding by the “average Joe” (particularly about steroids and early deaths due to drugs…), it’s easy to paint a very negative picture behind the lifestyle of a bodybuilder.

But when you look at the evidence here and point out responsible and smart bodybuilders – you’ll see that the bodybuilding lifestyle will do nothing but add an aura of youth around a person as they age. When it comes to bodybuilding, you’re not getting old – just older.
