Mass monster in training.

If you were to ask an athlete what their ultimate goals are when it comes to competing you’re likely to hear a wide variety of answers. While some will claim that they just enjoy competition others will instead state that they enjoy winning. When you enter the professional realm the answers will vary even greater. Some professional athletes simply compete for the pay check, others want to champions and rule over their fellow competitors. And others still will have intentions on leaving their mark on the sport in an effort to be remembered long after they’ve finished competing. For the Dorian Yates it seems that he falls into that latter category.

Often pointed to as the man to start the mass monster trend that we see in bodybuilding today, Dorian Yates was a bodybuilder on a mission. When he was first entered the scene many believed that he was something special, and though he may have fell short against Lee Haney a number of times, many predicted that Yates would some day become an Olympia champion.

Yates’ ability to pack on muscle quickly was something to truly marvel. When he went on an off season bulk the results were always extremely impressive. The man packed on mountains of muscle month by month always revealing a renewed version of himself at every bodybuilding show. His growth was astounding to say the least and is still considered to be the stuff of legends.

But it appears that Yates always had the innate ability to make considerable gains even before beginning his career proper. Yates’ genetic gifts set him apart from many others during his era save for competitors like Shawn Ray, Flex Wheeler, and Kevin Levrone who were genetically talented individuals in their own right. But even with nine months of training under his belt, it became quite obvious that Yates had the ability to truly bring something remarkable to bodybuilding. Take a look a young Dorian Yates after hitting the weights for nine months.
