Why The Rock Trains With Chains, And You Should Too

2 Chains.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is kind of a big deal. A former WWE star and current movie and t.v. personality, he earns his bread by not only having a larger than life aura but a larger than life physique to boot. Whether he’s a CIA agent alongside Kevin Hart, a football player in ballers, or putting the rock bottom on some “rudy-poo Jabroni’s”, his physicality is always at play, as his 6’5″ 260lb frame truly brings his characters to life. But how does he do it? How does he keep the gains he needs as well as busting through current plateau’s to keep on progressing? Rope chains, that’s how.

The Rock recently put up a picture of his infamous back, while impressive, what really sparked our attention was how he got there, and the answer was right there in his right hand. The chain.

Proudly destroying my workout in this one. Appreciate the note boys. Sorry you missed #RockTheTroops??. We’ll circle our wagons for next years show. Keep doin’ it strong and proud. #DELTACompany #1stMarineRaiderBattalion #MARSOC #ChainGang

Chains can weigh up to 60lbs. What makes them great is that they gradually increase and decrease in weight depending on where you are in the exercise.

Let’s saying you’re doing the benchpress with chains. As you lift the bar off the rack, the chain comes off the floor, thus adding more weight as the bar goes up. This works because you’re at your strongest during the lockout portion of the exercise. As the bar goes down, more chain links lay on the floor thus making the bar lighter as it travels back to your chest. This works because we tend to be weaker at the bottom portion of the exercise.

Still not convinced? Not only is this a physically intuitive way to add muscle and strength to your frame but it also helps with core stability as having to balance the moving weight forces your midsection into contraction.

Chains come in various, thickness, weights, and materials and are easily applied to your everyday workouts including pull-ups, deadlifts, etc. Add them to your next section for an old school way to add new school gainz. Why? Because “The Rock Says!”
