RONNIE COLEMAN: A DIFFERENT BREED

More than just a Bodybuilder

Ronnie Coleman will always be more than just a Bodybuilder; he is a legend and an icon within the sport. I’m sure that there isn’t a single bodybuilder in the world that hasn’t yelled out “Yeah Buddy”, “Light Weight Baby” or “Nothing but a peanut”, before performing a heavy set of squats, deadlifts or bench press. Ronnie broke the laws of training; he did everything that he possibly could in order to achieve the unmatched physique that he possessed during this reign.

The eight-time Mr. Olympia winner, as many know, is famous for his notorious lifts that were captured on video just a few weeks out from his Olympia contests. 200 lb incline dumbbell presses, 495 lb barbell rows, 800 lb deadlifts, 800 lb squats, and 2,300 lb leg presses were unheard-of before Ronnie made his way into the spotlight. It’s true that Ronnie possessed a powerlifting background – but such feats of strength before competing at the most important Bodybuilding contest in the world will probably never be duplicated. Ronnie Coleman is more than just a bodybuilder; he is truly an icon inside and outside of the sport.

What if Ronnie Coleman Competed Today?

I’m sure that this is a question that will be forever lingering among bodybuilding enthusiasts for years to come. It’s no secret that everyone wants to know how the eight-time champion would fare against the current title holder – but answering this question is literally impossible as there are many factors that need to be considered. All that said, everything points to the fact that Ronnie Coleman could best any of the current competitors, his physique even at his lightest would still be too much for anyone to handle as he had no flaws. He was truly on another level.

Ronnie Coleman was a monster, he defeated Dexter Jackson and Jay Cutler, two bodybuilding legends who would later become Mr. Olympia winners themselves, but this doesn’t mean that Ronnie was unbeatable, in fact, he was beaten at the 2002 GNC Show of Strength by Gunter Schlierkamp, who many fans agree also deserved the 2002 Mr. Olympia Sandow.

Many fans think that the likes of Chris Cormier, Kevin Levrone and Flex Wheeler would easily claim a Sandow statue in today’s competitive line-up, if this were the case maybe Ronnie Coleman would still be unbeatable in the sport today but no one will ever truly know. Many question if we will ever see another monster like Ronnie Coleman, a great majority of fans don’t think it’s possible… while others think that “The One” who will shock bodybuilding in the future has yet to be introduced to the sport.

So what do you think? Can we ever see another Ronnie Coleman in bodybuilding? Or will he forever be a titanic spire in the history of the sport?
