Ronnie Coleman has been diagnosed with sepsis and is being treated properly.
Bodybuilding icon Ronnie Coleman has officially been diagnosed with sepsis, according to a post shared by his family.
The 8x Olympia champion was hospitalized on June 30 with what was described as a “serious medical emergency.” Coleman’s family continued to provide updates via social media and shared that it was an infection in his blood.
On Friday, the latest update came and confirmed that Coleman had become septic.
”Ronnie’s doctors have managed the source of his bloodstream infection and are now treating it directly — an encouraging step forward. He also recently underwent a successful, minimally invasive heart procedure to support his overall quality of life.”
The 61-year-old first hinted at the emergency on social media last weekend, informing fans he would not be able to travel to the United Kingdom for a scheduled appearance. “Due to a medical emergency, I won’t be attending the event,” Coleman shared. “But don’t worry—I’m getting the best care possible.”
Ronnie Coleman’s Team Launches RONNIE STRONG
In the latest update, Coleman’s team shared that it would be working to raise money to support his recovery and raise awareness about sepsis. The initiative, called RONNIE STRONG, will donate proceeds to Sepsis Alliance.
”A portion of the net proceeds from Ronnie Strong will be donated to Sepsis Alliance, the nation’s leading sepsis advocacy nonprofit, to further its mission of saving lives and reducing suffering through education and outreach.”
Sepsis can last anywhere between 6-18 months. It occurs when your immune system has a reaction to an infection, which is extremely dangerous. Many types of infection can trigger sepsis, which causes extensive inflammation throughout your body and can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and even death. Coleman’s team thanked the community for all of the support and explains that it has triggered this initiative.
”Inspired by that strength, we’re pledging to help shine a brighter light on the condition that nearly took Ronnie’s life: sepsis.”
Despite being hospitalized, Coleman maintained his trademark positivity. In a follow-up message to fans, he echoed one of his most iconic phrases, writing, “Thanks for all the love and support and as always, this ain’t nothin’ but a peanut.”
Over the years, Coleman has faced numerous health challenges, including multiple back surgeries and complications stemming from his intense lifting style during his competitive prime. Despite that, he’s remained active in the bodybuilding community, regularly attending expos, mentoring up-and-coming athletes, and documenting his ongoing recovery journey with fans through social media and his popular YouTube channel.
A Legacy of Strength, Resilience, and Inspiration
Known as “The King” in bodybuilding circles, Ronnie Coleman built a legacy that is nearly unmatched in the sport’s history. With eight consecutive Mr. Olympia titles (1998–2005), countless professional wins, and a physique that pushed the boundaries of human potential, Coleman changed the game forever.
Ronnie Coleman’s impact on the sport of bodybuilding is hard to overstate. His combination of raw power, symmetrical muscle, and unrelenting work ethic redefined what a champion looked like on the Olympia stage. But it’s his mindset—relentless, optimistic, and fiercely determined—that truly sets him apart.
Even as his body endured the toll of a high-intensity training style that few could replicate, Coleman never backed down. His perseverance through injuries and surgeries became just as inspiring as his competition highlights.
