Rumor: Is Big Ramy Set to Train with Hany Rambod, the Veteran Coach of Phil Heath? Will it Help?

Could Big Ramy be looking to train with Hany Rambod?

The 2018 Olympia featured some pretty major shake ups in multiple divisions. We saw a changing of the guard in the Men’s Physique division, Women’s Physique, and even reigning Mr. Olympia Phil Heath was dethroned by Shawn Rhoden. It was a huge shake up, especially when you consider the fact that Mamdouh ‘Big Ramy’ Elssbiay was touted as the biggest threat to Phil Heath. When the dust settled, Big Ramy found himself in sixth place, falling four spots after taking second in 2017.

It seems that as a result of his placing and looking to change things up, Big Ramy is leaving Oxygen Gym and the Kuwait Camel Crew in hopes of getting a different look. Disappointed in his performance and feeling like he has something to prove to the fans, Big Ramy is looking to reinvent himself and he may do so in the most unlikely of places.

According to multiple sources, including Nick’s Strength and Power and multiple social media outlets, it seems that Big Ramy could possibly be considering the possibility of training with famed bodybuilding coach Hany Rambod. While switching coaches and gyms may not be all that surprising, looking to train with Hany Rambod is a pretty interesting move, especially when you consider that the coach trains Phil Heath, a man who Big Ramy considered his rival just a year prior.

While there has been no official confirmation, let’s take a moment to consider the implications. Could Big Ramy training with Hany Rambod really change things up enough for him to become an Olympia threat once again?

While Big Ramy has always been massive, his size has proven to be a double-edged sword. His massive and powerful physique may be eye catching, yet at the same time the Egyptian bodybuilder has found himself holding too much water at times, has packed on muscle to the point of looking disproportional, and has looked blocky on stage. Could Hany Rambod turn all of that around? What approach could he use to reverse Big Ramy’s mistakes and get him in championship condition for the 2019 Olympia? As of now we’ll have to wait and see, but it’s definitely a possibility that the best Big Ramy has yet to step on stage and Hany Rambod could be the key to bringing out the best in the massive bodybuilder.
