A tragic incident took place in Cuddalore on Sunday. A 21-year-old bodybuilder passed away after choking on a piece of bread he was eating during a break from a workout session.

According to the Times of India, a bodybuilder, who was identified as M Hariharan, had a piece of bread get lodged in his throat in the gym. The bodybuilder was training for a state-level championship at Vadalur in Cuddalore. Hariharan was staying in Cuddalore to compete in the U70kg category of the event.

Following the event, News9 spoke with Dr. Amreen Sheik to discuss the incident and the importance of hydrating during workouts, along with some foods that are beneficial before and after workouts.

“It is very important to yourself hydrated. During the workout sessions, it is advisable to keep sipping on water.”

They continued to discuss pre- and post-workout meals. This includes bananas, whole grains, eggs, protein bars, peanut butter, and yogurt, among many others. These foods are high in nutrients that help muscles prepare or recovery from high-intensity workouts.
