Generation Iron 20,000 Calories

It’s over 20,000!?

Every bodybuilder knows that in order to sculpt the ultimate physique it’s going to take more than just training. Diet is the key to perfecting an aesthetic physique and it’s something every young bodybuilder should always keep in the back of their mind. In order to be a bodybuilder you have to have a big appetite. There’s no room for anyone who thinks eating only 2000 calories will get them the bulk and muscle they desire. The truth of the matter is that if you want to compete in professional bodybuilding or if you simply want to grow then you’re going to have to be consuming a great deal of calories.

What’s really interesting about calorie intake is that unlike other athletes, bodybuilders have to be extremely strict about what they’re consuming. Every thing must be broken down to exact percentages in order to fulfill the proper macronutrient intake for the day. Athletes from other sports however don’t have to stress over this as much. Sure they still have to make sure they’re sticking to their macros but not as slavishly. Another difference is the amount of calories that are consumed.

If a bodybuilder consumes twice the calories of a normal person, then strongmen in fact consume upwards of two times the amount of a serious bodybuilder on a daily basis. When we think of high calorie strongman diets, the name Robert Oberst comes to mind. He’s the second strongest man in the United States and is currently training hard to ensure that he earns the title of World’s Strongest Man. But in order to do that, Oberst, Obie for short, needs fuel in the form of food to push his body to the next level. How much food are we talking here? The strongman eats between 10,000 to 20,000 calories per day. Think that’s a made up number? Well, take a look at the video below and see for yourself.

Are you impressed with Robert Oberst’s daily calorie intake? Let us know in the comments below and be sure to follow Generation Iron on Facebook and Twitter.
