THROWBACK: BEFORE HE WAS A MASS MONSTER DORIAN YATES WAS AN AESTHETIC GOD

When it comes to bodybuilding physiques the eras can be broken down into two categories. First is the classic physique era which featured some of the sports greatest athletes such as Sergio Oliva, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Frank Zane just to name a few. It was a time in which symmetry and balance was held in the highest regard. Then there’s the modern era of the mass monster. It’s all about massive muscle and size these days, but the man responsible for bringing about this new age is an individual that is still looked upon with high regard. Dorian Yates is the god father of mass monsters, effectively changing bodybuilding forever.

Dorian Yates is certainly one of the most massive bodybuilders to ever hit the stage, yet was able to maintain a shredded form as well. With all the massive size he put on, his fellow competitors felt compelled to do the same in the hopes of dethroning the Yates. But Dorian Yates was a master building unreal muscle while cutting water weight and fat perfectly.

But Dorian Yates wasn’t always a monster. In fact he had a very classic physique when he first hit the scene. Back in the day Dorian Yates focused less on being massive and more on having balance and symmetry and though he maintained this ideology moving forward in his career, massive muscle mass wasn’t necessarily the overall goal. Just check out the below photo that demonstrates how focused Dorian Yates was on aesthetics.
