UPDATE: Generation Iron 3 Production Nears Completion & Boasts Over 10 Countries Across 6 Continents

Generation Iron 3 has nearly completed filming in over 10 different countries.

The producers of Generation Iron 3 movie have given an update on the progress of the next sequel in the Generation Iron franchise. Since its announcement, Generation Iron 3’s main goal was to explore the global expansion of bodybuilding and the stories of competitors that put everything on the line in pursuit of their dreams to achieve the perfect physique.

One of the key topics being uncovered – what is the core of bodybuilding regardless of division or league? What should the ultimate physique look like?

The Generation Iron crew has now filmed in over 10 countries including India, Germany, France, Uzbekistan, Australia, China, Iran, Brazil, Canada, Ghana, and the United States.

The full cast of Generation Iron 3 is yet to be revealed, however the film will not only showcase established pro bodybuilders, but also introduce the world to some new faces of the sport.  Some of these new faces include – Regan Grimes and Chris Bumstead from Canada, Tim Budesheim from Germany, Varinder Singh Ghuman from India, Rafael Brandao from Brazil, and relative newcomer to the West – Hadi Choopan.

The film will focus heavily on competitive bodybuilding and the experiences that come with it.

“Each region that we cover in the film is very unique in its own way” says producer Edwin Mejia Jr.

“We have been traveling across the globe from country to country seeing how bodybuilders utilize any resources available to them to follow their careers. We saw a lot of similarities and a lot of differences from region to region.  We went from countries deeply rooted in bodybuilding… to regions of emerging economies and opening borders, where bodybuilding and fitness has just started to develop.”

One of the regions covered in the film is India. Sheru Aangrish, one of the first Indian Pro Bodybuilders and now a top local promoter. Together with his brother Hermant, he organized a Pro IFBB Federation of India and created, a now world recognized competition, Sheru Classic.  They showed the film crew how local bodybuilders are able to focus on their craft in a country that at one point had almost no fitness movement just a few years ago.

The film will also explore a variety of divisions within bodybuilding, such as the newly launched Classic Physique division as well as Women’s Fitness.

“The new Generation Iron film is all about competition.  Right now the biggest debate in the fitness industry is – what will happen to bodybuilding?  Will the heavyweights become less popular than the new Classic Physique guys? Which division will generate the most attention?”

Said director Vlad Yudin.  “Also can athletes from other countries be competitive against the ones from the US – the mecca of bodybuilding.  Often they work with less resources and less access.”

The film also looks at the industry as a whole, analyzing the expanding sports supplementation market and highlighting some of the strong newcomers in the market, such as Amazing Muscle founded by Samir Bhatia, expanding his brand globally in Asia and Europe.

“The sports nutrition industry can be a very difficult business to navigate.  The supplement market is oversaturated.  It’s interesting to see how small businesses work to overcome the challenges along the way.” Mentioned Mejia Jr.

Generation Iron 3 is Directed by Vlad Yudin and also produced by Vlad Yudin and Edwin Mejia Jr. – the same creative team behind Generation Iron 1 and 2. Niro James will serve as an Executive Producer of the project.

The film’s first look teaser is expected to premiere in July.
