So the 2016 Olympia has come to an end and once again Phil Heath has proven himself to be the greatest bodybuilder in the world. The competition was fierce yet Heath was able to comfortably take home the Sandow for the sixth straight year in a row. At this point it’s becoming harder to see who could possibly beat the reigning champion. Many people were thinking that Kevin Levrone would be the man to challenge Heath despite the fact that he took a thirteen year layoff and is 52 years of age. Nevertheless, it brought a great deal of intrigue to this year’s show. But what did it all mean in the end?

There are people out there that are ripping Kevin Levrone to shreds as he was unable to make the top ten. Many onlookers have spouted vitriolic statements that truly have no grounds. Sure, judging Levrone’s physique is one thing, but to discredit one of the living legends of the sport is down right idiotic and childish. That being said, Kevin Levrone just wasn’t able to reach the level necessary to take on the monsters of the modern age. He made some incredible gains and packed on some quality muscle, but ultimately it was no comparison once he got on stage.

Though he may not of have broken the top ten what we all need to focus on is not how he placed but the kind of drive and determination Kevin Levrone demonstrated in making a comeback. Sure, compared to many of the other competitors he was undersized and outgunned. Yet that didn’t stop him putting on as great a show as possible. Kevin Levrone is a living legend for a reason. This showing should have proved that anything is possible at any age if the situation is treated with respect and serious dedication. We should all salute Kevin Levrone because while this showing didn’t see him capture the much sought after Olympia title, he did demonstrate that his legacy is even more secure than it already was.

What do you think of Kevin Levrone’s Olympia showing?
