WATCH: Did Oscar De La Hoya Just Confirm Canelo Alvarez vs GGG 2 For September?

Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin 2 confirmed?!

Oscar De La Hoya has found himself consistently in the headlines these days. While not all of the news may have been positive, the former boxing world champion turned promoter may have just taken some of the heat off of his back as he appears to unwittingly confirm the rematch between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin for later this year.

The first fight between Canelo Alvarez and GGG Golovkin was mired in controversy. The bout was declared a draw, with some pretty suspect scoring to say the least. But despite that fact, the rematch was announced to the joy of boxing aficionados.

Then Canelo Alvarez failed a drug test.

After that little mishap, Alvarez has found himself being accused of cheating. The Mexican boxer claims that he ate tainted meat which in effect caused him to fail his drug test weeks before the rematch. Even GGG got in on the fun with a NIKE Jordan commercial that pokes fun at his rival.

The bout has since been scrapped and GGG has found a new opponent in Vanes Martirosyan. While the Kazakhstan native intends to move forward with the May 5 bout, Oscar De La Hoya may have just confirmed his intentions to put on the rematch between Canelo Alvarez and GGG this September.
