Whether it’s this year or sometime down the line – will Phil Heath be able to earn another Olympia victory?
There’s been a lot of talk this past year (ever since Phil Heath lost Olympia 2018) about whether or not Phil will return in 2019 to the Olympia stage. The rumor mill seems to strongly suggest that he will not but potentially return in 2020 instead – though Phil hasn’t officially stated anything as of this writing. But a bigger question that should be talked about is whether or not Phil Heath CAN win again – especially if he waits until 2020 to compete again.
Yes, Phil Heath still has one of the greatest physiques in bodybuilding currently – but the mere fact that he has been champion for 7 years straight showcases that… well, that he is getting older. Younger athletes are coming through every single year and eventually one of these guys will build up the muscle maturity to become the new bodybuilding star.
Now that’s not to say that our current champion, Shawn Rhoden, isn’t getting on in age either. So the question becomes that if Phil Heath doesn’t compete again until 2020 – who will be the returning champion? Will it be Shawn Rhoden or someone new? And furthermore, can Phil Heath overcome the psychological and physical struggles of making a comeback?
