Opinion: Williams Fitness discusses why special invites can set a dangerous precedent for the IFBB and Mr. Olympia.

Last week news broke that Cedric McMillan had received a special invite to the Mr. Olympia 2019. This was due to his US military duty preventing him from competing in a summer IFBB competition (that he had been training for) and bumping him off the Olympia qualification list. But does this open the floodgates for other special invites? And will this dampen the prestige of the Mr. Olympia title?

Content partner Williams Fitness has put together an opinion video where he discusses why he thinks the Cedric McMillan invite was a bad idea – and that the fans are wrong for hoping that Big Ramy also receive a special invite as well.

According to Williams Fitness, bodybuilding is a life choice and requires sacrifice. So too does the military, it’s an honorable decision that changes the course of your life and duty to the United States for the rest of your life. But sometimes to the two don’t mix – and the IFBB Pro League making special exceptions for this creates an unfair playing field for the most prestigious competition in the sport of bodybuilding.
