WHY ROBBIE LAWLER AND TYRON WOODLEY SHOULD BE THROWING HANDS AT UFC 200

Lawler vs Woodley

This one’s a no brainer

For all of you fight fans who don’t know UFC 200 is vastly approaching upon us. The highly touted historic card will be held in Las Vegas at the MGM grand arena and it seems everything is all set except for one minor detail…the fights. With only 1 bout officially inked (Cain Velasquez vs. Travis Browne – heavyweight), fight fans are starting to get restless. Recently on the MMA Hour Ariel Helwani revealed that the Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz 2 was all but signed at the catch weight of 170. However, that still only leaves us with 2 fights for a 6 fight main card. But don’t you worry your pretty little head Dana White, we’ve got some suggestions… The welterweight division has been in a bit of an upheaval lately. With Steven “Wonderboy” Thompson shocking the world by dismantling top 5 contender Johnny Hendrix via second round KO many people were calling for his title shot. Unfortunately for #3 ranked Tyron Woodley it seemed as if Dana White would listen…but alas. In a fortunate turn of events for Woodley, the promotion went ahead and booked “Wonderboy” for a fight with Rory “The Red King” Mcdonald in Ottawa, Canada for a Fight Night on June 18th. With the news of this fight being booked along with the lack of fights for UFC 200, Robbie Lawler vs Tyron Woodley is all but a no brainer. Tyron Woodley has been campaigning for this fight since Johnny Hendrix missed weight back in UFC 192 and not to long ago Dana White promised him the shot. But a promise from Dana White is about as cheap and reliable as a gold watch on canal St. and Tyron took to social media to promote his cause. Personally I like the fight. One, because I think Woodley deserves a title shot, it’s not his fault Carlos Condit got injured in their bout and Johnny Hendrix couldn’t make weight. Two, it’s a good match up, Tyron Woodley is an elite wrestler with knockout power in his hands. If he can get Robbie Lawler to the ground it would make for an interesting night. Three, he’s playing the game, in the age of Conor Mcgregor closed mouths don’t get fed, so for Woodley to start being more vocal and promoting his worth shows he’s willing to go out his comfort zone to get the fight. It shows he really wants it. Now Tyron Woodley isn’t the most household name or doesn’t have the most explosive personality but with a knockout artist like “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler, it’s damn near impossible ot fail. Besides it at UFC 200…HELLO?! Yes, Carlos Condit is still out there, and personally I think he won the Lawler bout but he had his chance. If he wants to hang around to get another crack that’s fine, if he wants to retire, it’s sad, but that’s fine too. It’s Tyron Woodley’s time, he deserves the shot. The winner of the Rory Mcdonald vs. Steven Thompson fight can then face the winner of the Woodley vs. Lawler fight for a shot at the strap. And there we have it, out welterweight picture. What do you guys/gals think of the above match-up for UFC200? Has Woodley done enough to Get a shot at the strap, or does he simply not have the momentum to surpass the bigger names at welterweight?
