WILL THE OLYMPIA EVER BE THE SAME WITHOUT THE KAI AND PHIL RIVALRY?

olympia the same after kai vs phil headerThe rivalry is all but over.

When it comes to competitive sports there’s nothing like a good rivalry to get everyone’s fire burning. Rivalries bring about a different gravitas to proceedings. Rather than just having a competition between two individuals who are at the top of their game but respect each other nonetheless, a good rivalry brings all that to the table and so much more. The emotional stakes involved make things all the more exciting. No longer is a competition about seeing who the best of the best is, rather it’s transformed into which competitor will out do the other. That’s what bodybuilding has received in the past few years with the Rivalry between Phil Heath and Kai Greene.

Now that it’s certain that Kai Greene once again won’t be competing at the Olympia it’s become apparent that the days of “The Predator” and “The Gift” trading trash talk are firmly in the past. The two men worked as perfect foils of each other. Kai Greene the blue collar underdog looking to upset Phil Heath the front runner who has reached championship level status. But now that the two no longer compete at the same competitions it’s become clear that the likelihood that either man will do battle on a posing stage once again is extremely thin.

So what does this mean for the Olympia?

For one, we can already see that new story lines are being introduced to keep the Olympia interesting. Kevin Levrone entering the fray has brought about some renewed interest in the biggest bodybuilding show of the year. Yet, things still don’t feel the same as when Kai and Phil seemed to be ready to throw punches at each other. The Olympia is still the big show to be certain, but the lack of Kai Greene’s presence could be felt at the 2015 and even 2016 press conference. The palpable energy has disipated and has been left with a show that is still sure to be intriguing. But the ghost of “The Predator” still lingers.

With all that being said, the Olympia is still sure to be an interesting show. Just don’t expect any pushing and shoving to go down when things get underway.

What’s your opinion on the apparent end of the Kai Greene and Phil Heath rivalry?
