Zac Meyers has shattered Larry Wheels’ record-setting 2,275 lbs total weight.

2020 has obviously been a totally unexpected and at times disappointing year for strength sports fans, like it has for everyone basically everywhere. But there are still a few bright spots: newbie powerlifter Zac Meyers was able to unofficially shatter Larry Wheels’ world record for total weight lifted in a show after he lifted 2,321.4 lbs — 46.5 lbs more than Wheels’ record! You can check out some of Meyers incredible lifts from the competition below.

Although unofficially recorded, Meyers records for the meet were as follows:

  • *PR* Squat – 888.4 lbs/403kg
  • Bench – 600.7 lbs/272.5kg
  • *PR* Deadlift – 832.2 lbs/377.5kg
  • Total – 2321lbs/1053kg

Meyers belongs to a new generation of power lifters for whom the sky is the limit. With all the recent advances in nutrition and sports fitness science, today’s competitors can achieve even more than anyone before them. Records that would have been unthinkable even 10 or 15 years ago are already being smashed, sometimes by multiple people.

In addition to breaking Wheels’ record, Meyers set two personal records of his own, one for the squat and one for the deadlift. It’s a great reminder that although we see ourselves as being in competition with other lifters, at the end of the day, we’re also in competition with ourselves. The goal isn’t to beat anybody else; the goal is only to be a better lifter than you were yesterday.
